Diabetic alert dog Korey’s sense of smell is so strong it helps save lives of owners

Korey the diabetic alert dog performs a number of tasks such as monitoring his owner’s blood sugar levels – and his sense of smell is so strong it is life-saving

Diabetic alert dogs are trained to recognise the difference between certain scents and use their heightened sense of smell in order to detect whether a person’s blood sugar is high or low.

Korey shows these skills in practice in the clip, by detecting his owner’s high blood sugar levels and alerting her by getting her attention by spinning in a circle and staring at her.

Viewers were clearly impressed by Korey’s training, with one user commenting: “Such a good baby! Love him!”

Fetch. Chase. Eat. Sleep. Repeat. is a new podcast from TeamDogs which takes a sideways look at what it’s REALLY like bringing puppies into your life.

Every week hosts Hannah Jones and Karen Price will be joined by celebrity dog owners like Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas and Coronation Street actress Samia Longchambon to chew over the adventures – and misadventures! – of puppy parenting.

Another commenter wrote: “What a lucky lady to have such a beautiful angel watching over you.”

A third added: “Amazing – we don’t deserve dogs.”
